Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed in Washington DC. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. In 1992, she was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was on the panel in 1988's presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Her reporting included a number of important stories like the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. She traveled widely with the president Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
